Procedure

Properly grease and flour an 8-inch square pan.

In a bowl, stir together white sugar, brown sugar, flour, cocoa, salt, and baking soda.

Slowly add water, vinegar, vegetable oil, and vanilla essence. Beat until smooth and glossy.

Pour the mixture into prepared pan.

In a preheated oven to 350 degrees, bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean from the center.

Let it cool for few minutes, and then remove from the pan to wire rack.

Allow it to cool completely and transfer to cutting board.

Using a heart shaped cookie cutter, cut the cake into four equal pieces.

Evenly spread chocolate frosting (recipe given below) on top of 2 pieces, and then place remaining 2 cake pieces on top of each.

Cover with semi-sweet or dark melted chocolate if desired.

Chocolate frosting procedure

Melt butter in the microwave. In a separate small bowl, mix sugar and cocoa. Add to the melted butter alternating with milk. Beat until smooth. Stir in vanilla essence.
