Spring Cleaning, choose a room and get started!

Entry #42, March 16, 2010

For many people, spring cleaning is the dreaded chores to do before you can enjoy your home for the season. From dusty ledges, to dirty windows, spring cleaning can be a daunting task.  I’m not sure if the actual cleaning is daunting, or the thought of “where to start” is more daunting.  I think it’s the latter. Here are some resources and checklists to help you get started.  Let’s choose  a room and conquer it!

Bedrooms: Once or twice a year, remove everything from under your bed and vacuum/dust.  It’s the perfect place for dust to collect and sometimes never get’s cleaned until you move! Real Simple has an article on cleaning the bedroom, and ways to keep it clean day after day.

Bathrooms: Take an inventory of cleaning products, cosmetics, medications,

anything that has been in your bathroom for more than 6 months.  Evaluate if it’s still works, has expired, or is just taking up room and needs to be tossed.  Martha Stewart has a printable .pdf guide for a Spring-cleaning checklist.

Kitchens: Just like in the bedroom with the bed, pull out major appliances and clean thoroughly underneath.  If you think of all the Cheerios, peas, and rice that are under there, you’ll get sick!  This also is a breeding ground for pests. Have I said enough?

Exterior: Windows aren’t the only items that need to be cleaned. Treat the exterior of your home with the same attention to detail as the interiors.  This is a great time to get on a ladder, and clean out gutters full of leaves and debris.  Pressure wash sidewalks and walkways, also brick that has mildew stains.

Tips: The entire house doesn’t have to be “spring-clean” in one weekend.  Space out the tasks, and enlist some family members to help!
