Ingredients

  • 1 box of yellow cake mix (9 ounces)
  • ½ cup of water
  • 1 egg
  • 1 can of vanilla frosting (16 ounces)
  • 2 packages of colored chocolate candy pieces
  • Dried corn husks

Procedure

  1. Mix the egg, cake mix, and water in a bowl. Bake according to the instructions on the box.
  2. Leave the cake to cool for 10 minutes then transfer it to a cooling rack.
  3. After the cake has completely cooled, place it in the deep freezer for approximately 30 minutes. A cold cake is easier to cut.
  4. Cut the cake into 3 ellipses (see image).
  5. Place the pieces on a flat surface and frost them.
  6. Arrange the pieces of colored chocolate on the top, sides, and bottom to simulate kernels.
  7. Attach the husks to the cake using additional frosting.

This thanksgiving dessert for kids gives sweet corn a whole new meaning. The corn cobs look like the real thing. The cakes will brighten up your thanksgiving table and add cheer to the occasion. The recipe is simple so your kids can help out. They will have fun putting the kernels on as well as eating them. If for nothing else, make this treat just to see the look on your kids’ faces.
