Hand Pies Recipe

disclosure recipe

Ingredients

Makes 18 pies

  • Roasted turkey (finely chopped; 1 cup)
  • Refrigerated pie crusts (1-1/2 packages or 14.1 ounces)
  • 1 carrot (grated)
  • Cut green beans (cooked; ½ cup)
  • Mashed potatoes (3/4 cup)
  • Fresh parsley (chopped; 2 tablespoons)
  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • Cream cheese (softened; ½ package or 8 ounces)
  • Pepper
  • Salt
  • Warm turkey gravy
  • Poppy seeds (optional)

Preparation

  1. Mix together chopped roasted turkey, cream cheese, cut green beans, mashed potatoes, chopped parsley, and grated carrot. Season the mix with pepper and salt.
  2. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Unroll the piecrust and roll again each one into a 12-inch circle. Take a 4-inch round cutter and cut each of the rolled piecrusts into 6 circles.
  3. Put the turkey mixture at the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough to cover the filling and seal the edges by folding and pressing.
  4. Lightly grease a baking sheet and arrange the pies on it. Brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle poppy seeds (optional).
  5. Bake until the color of the pies turns golden brown or for 18 to 20 minutes.
  6. Serve the baked pies with warm turkey gravy.

Tips

  • Unbaked pies can be stored in the freezer for up to one month. So, if you want, you make a lot of pies and store them for serving at a later occasion. All you have to do is to take them out of the freezer and bake them for 30 to 32 minutes.

This recipe is a great way to use the Thanksgiving leftover items. The leftover turkey mixed with green beans, mashed potatoes, turkey gravy will taste great. In addition, the chopped parsley will add extra flavor.

How have you planned using the Thanksgiving leftover items? Have you any secret recipe to share with us?
