It is not always possible to maintain your regular daily routine while on vacation. People spend their time at outings, partying, eating, and drinking in the summer season. The challenge is to maintain your healthy eating habits like dining on nutritious meals and snacks, as much as possible. However, what you need to do is to make smart dining choices and fill yourself up on healthy foods whenever you can throughout your vacation.

Plan for Simple & Balanced Diet
To avoid the hazard of gaining unwanted weight, do not use your vacation as an opportunity to eat everything that you normally do not eat at home. However, as it is not possible at this time to stick to your typical foods, eat 70 or 80 percent healthy foods and spare the rest to taste some rich and junk foods like dark chocolate or cheesy burgers.
Snack Healthy
Make smart choices while eating your snacks on vacation. Fresh food items and animal or plant based protein will keep your blood sugar balanced. While packing for trip, make sure that you have enough packed nuts or seeds to munch on the road. As summer is hot, eating fresh fruits and yogurt as snacks will save you from various problems like fatigue, night sweat, headache, etc.
Eat Healthy on Road Trips
In order to avoid eating from roadside restaurants during road trips, pack healthy lunches and snacks. Take a snack bag filled with unsalted nuts and seeds, humus, sandwiches, whole grain crackers with low fat cheese, low fat granola bars, pretzels, popcorn, etc. Trail mix, chopped raw vegetables, pears, plums, apples, and other seasonal fruits will make green travel snacks. You can also save time in this way, as you do not need to stop at roadside stores and vending machines for snacks.

Choose Restaurants Wisely
Even if it takes extra time, find out sit-down restaurants instead of fast-food shops during your trip. These restaurants will give you chance of asking your waiter/waitress about the food-making processes. You can also make requests for healthier options like boiled, baked, or grilled instead of fried foods. Ask for salads and vegetables instead of fried side dishes.
Healthy Party & BBQ Menu
Summer is the time for parties and BBQs. Instead of the usual meat and ribs, try keeping the menu healthy this time. Keep marinated tofu and grilled salmon on the menu and give turkey or chicken breast burgers a try. Try grilling peaches, zucchini, red peppers, peaches, and eggplants.
Drink Healthy
The regular beverages and alcohol have calories and add up quickly. So, try avoiding them as much as possible and drink fresh cold water or fruit juices instead. Instead of ice cream, eat vanilla yogurt and add various sliced fruits into your desserts.

Vacation does not mean that you have to devour unhealthy foods continuously. Just, make proper plans before going to the trip and stay on track with eating healthy. Learn to choose lighter options on the menu when dining out. Ask your wait person if there is a “lighter fare” menu. You may find that eating healthy can make you feel less sluggish and able to enjoy your entire vacation!
