‘Decorating with Themed Christmas Trees’ – Sam Holloway
With the start of December comes the start of the holiday season, it’s now officially time to start putting up lights, purchasing gifts, and of course, putting up a tree which is a tradition that most people enjoy year after year. The Christmas Tree is one of the most enduring and beautiful symbols that we associate with this special time and can light up the holiday spirit of anyone who sees it. There isn’t a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to put up a Christmas tree but by choosing a theme for your tree, your festive decorations will all feel much smarter. Be creative by decorating your tree with a favourite theme that suits your decorating style or your family’s personality. Not everyone enjoys a fragrant, fresh, natural Christmas tree. Many choose to opt for something man-made, either way they can both be decorated in a theme of your choice.
Trim your Christmas tree with beautiful ornaments, garlands, and festive holiday lights, whether you prefer a more traditional look or like to experiment with unique colours and accents there is a theme to suit all tastes.
As a lover of nature the two themes I show in my boards are both related to wildlife and the great outdoors.
Woodland Christmas Tree Theme
The woodland tree is natural and sweet. It is the perfect theme for those who love the outdoors and the natural wonders of the season at this time of year.
Use White lights on your tree to symbolize the stars. Keep the colours neutral and natural, Winter white, browns, greens and subtle blues are good choices. Include texture by using a combination of Burlap, wood, metals and glass. Use items from nature to create one-of-a-kind ornaments for your natural tree. You can make a family activity out of collecting pine cones, mosses and dried branches to decorate the tree with. Tiny bundles of twigs and a stick of cinnamon tied with raffia or twine add a wintry fragrance to the room. Use ornaments of forest animals – such as deer, owls and foxes. You can also use beads, ribbons, feathers and floral picks and finish off the look by carefully sprinkling the branches with artificial snow.
Peacock Christmas Tree Theme
The Peacock Tree is inspired by the drama and colour of the beautiful peacock, serving as a great tree for both traditional and more contemporary households. This theme uses the bright colours of the peacock including turquoise, lime green and purple. This tree is all about drama and making a statement, so don’t spare the colour! Use white lights to show off the colours and grandeur of this fanciful tree which uses fewer lights than most themes as the focus is on the colour of the ornaments. Use inexpensive balls in just two of the three colours. Use as many as your budget allows. Use wire edged ribbon in one of your chosen colours as a garland around the tree. Finish off your Peacock Tree and give it a designer look by adding actual peacock feathers you can find at the craft store. You can tuck long feathers into the top of the tree as a topper, or insert short feathers into clear glass balls. With this theme there is also the opportunity to add a few special Eastern inspired ornaments such as miniature peacocks.
Your tree is a reflection on your personality,it’s time to shine and let your imagination thrive and sparkle.
