There is nothing better than summer time grilling, right? Many people brag about their secret or family barbecue sauce recipe. If you don’t have one, we just got you covered. It’s a simple mixture of few key ingredients that you can play around and experiment with until you have created your own secret barbecue sauce.
Summer Grilling: Homemade Barbecue Sauce

Total time: 30 minutes
Yields: 15-20 servings
Ingredients
1 chopped medium onion
2 tablespoons butter, softened
2 minced garlic cloves
1 cup ketchup
2/3 cup brown sugar
¼ cup cider vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons mustard
Pinch of pepper
4-5 drops of liquid smoke (optional)

Procedure
In saucepan, sauté onion and garlic in butter for one minute or until soft. Stir in brown sugar and pepper. Add remaining ingredients and cook uncovered over medium to low heat for 20-25 minutes or until cherries are tender and sauce thickens. Keep stirring occasionally.
This is a classic barbecue sauce recipe with added cherry flavor. If you prefer a spicy version, you can add smoked jalapenos or hot Asian pepper for that extra kick!
